On The Menu Today: Nomo Kitchen in SoHo!

Hi Guys! 🙂

Last Sunday (the 19th of August), me, Diego and our good friend Genaro went out to brunch in the city to celebrate my birthday. The place I chose was actually one that we had all been to before, for Diego’s birthday.

That place is called NoMo Kitchen in SoHo, which is what we’re going to be talking about today.

I found this place online back in April for Diego’s birthday, and loved it so much that I told him I wanted to come here again for mine.

I mainly chose it not only because I saw the menu and ambiance of the restaurant and thought it looked nice, but also because Diego LOVES SoHo. Ask him what part of New York City he loves the most, and he’ll most likely tell you that haha. And because of him, I’ve grown pretty fond of it as well. I mean who wouldn’t? There’s great stores to shop at, great restaurants all over, and cool street art all over the place to take great pictures.

So I figure, what better place to take him out for his birthday then in his favorite area right?

Entrance & Decor of the restaurant:

One thing to mention about this place is that it’s both a hotel AND restaurant. So when you first walk-in, you see this really pretty, lit up archway, which is one of the (if not THE) most popular place in the vicinity to take pictures. We took a few, but because it’s so popular, it’s a little hard to get any without someone or people being in the background of it lol.

I literally fell in love with that archway. It’s SO cute, and I’m dying to come back and check it out at night. I can only imagine how much more pretty it must look…*too cheesy? Okay sorry, let’s move on!!*

After you walk through the archway, comes the actual restaurant. I really like the set up of the entire thing. All of the greenery, graffiti on the walls and overall decor is really nice.  It’s chill, but looks nice and “fancy enough” to make you want to dress up for it still.

The first time we went we had sat at a corner table, which was fine except when I wanted to take a picture by the hearts wall because I thought it was SO cute (clearly it’s the little things that please me lol). There were 2 different hearts walls, which both had a table in front of them, and every time one of the tables cleared and I wanted to get up to take a picture in front of it, new guests were seated at the table; so it just really wasn’t workin’ out for me.

When we went for my birthday brunch, we got to sit in front one of them, so you guys can imagine how excited I was!

Food & Drinks:

IMG_3401

So as I mentioned in the beginning, we came here for my birthday brunch (as we did for Diego’s birthday back in April, because let’s be real, who doesn’t love brunch?).

The first time we went for Diego’s birthday, we just kind of ordered whatever food, drinks, etc. we wanted and went a little crazy. But for my birthday, we decided to do the hour and a half bottomless brunch special for $29 per person (with our specific drink(s) being mimosas).

If you’re unfamiliar with what a bottomless brunch special is, ultimately, it’s you paying one set price to have unlimited access to the specific drink of your choosing for a set time that the restaurant gives you, with your desired meal as well. A lot of restaurants, pubs, bars, etc. tend to do this special, so if you haven’t tried it out somewhere I definitely recommend doing it.

I completely think it’s worth it, being that it’s literally unlimited mimosas or whatever drink it is you choose for an hour and a half, especially since the cost for lets say 4-5 mimosas is already going to probably be over $30 as it is and adding your meal into that you’ll most likely end up paying double.

I don’t at ALL remember what drink specifically this was, but it was super good and sweet tasting and the cup was hilarious to me for some reason. Reminded me of Medieval times for some reason.

I thought the food was amazing, presentation and portion wise. I’m a huge breakfast person, so I ended up getting the Eggs your Way dish with potatoes, turkey bacon, toast and french fries on the side (pictured below). I’m the type that I can EAT, but when there are a few different things coming with my meal the way that this did, a portion size like this is the perfect amount.

Our friend Genaro got relatively the same thing as me, the only difference is he substituted the turkey bacon for sausage and got the avocado toast on the side (which he said was AMAZING and he highly recommends for anyone to try), also pictured below.

Diego is a HUGE burger lover, so he just ended up getting the double cheeseburger (which he mentioned was really good) and an order of the lemon ricotta pancakes on the side for me and him to split.

Guys I just gotta say…if you know me, you know that when it comes to food I LOVEEEEE to eat, but to the same extent, I’m pretty plain when it comes to my food. Not in the sense of no seasoning or anything like that, but like I don’t care for my food to be made super fancy or look crazy and expensive or different crazy flavors or anything like that, does that make sense? I just mean that I like what I like and that’s that.

For example, with pancakes, I really only typically tend to like and eat plain pancakes or chocolate chip ones occasionally, but any flavors out of that realm has always been a hard pass, but these….OH MY GOD.

These lemon ricotta pancakes are the bomb.com x 10!!!! They taste SO good, it’s actually insane. They’re so little and cute and delicious. You definitely taste the lemon in the pancakes, but it’s not in an overpowering, tangy way. It’s light and sweet. 10/10 recommend that if you come here, these are a MUST to try, along with the avocado toast that Geno had and suggested.

General Thoughts:

Overall, I completely love and recommend for anyone that reads this to try out NoMo’s Kitchen if you’re in the city and in the SoHo area. Price wise, the place is a little bit pricey, but I think it’s worth it to try.

The food was great, the ambiance and decor were SO nice, and the service was pretty good. I will say though that the first time we came here for Diego’s birthday, the service was better then when we came this time around for my birthday.

The lady we originally had started off pretty good, but then suddenly left and didn’t really say anything to us about her leaving or us getting a new server. And then the new male server we got, service wise, was kind of slow. He almost looked like he could careless about being there and waiting on us, which listen, I used to work at a restaurant myself so I I get it to some extent, trust me. But at the end the day, we are paying for a service, and you don’t have to be our best friend, but at least be quick when it comes to bringing us/refilling our drinks you know?

So that was a little bit of a downer, but it is what it is I guess. I’m not going to let that hinder my overall impression and liking of NoMo’s, which is that I really loved it. Everything else was pretty great, and I think that the general prices of everything was pretty worth it.

Originally, my overall rating of this place was a 10, but after the no-so-great service we got on Sunday, sorry guys, you got dropped to an 8-9. I would recommend that you guys come and try it out for yourselves at least once though.

* * * * * *

Well, that’s all that I’ve got for you guy’s today on this restaurant post. Let me know what you guys thought about it. Did you end up trying it? What did you think about it if you did? Let me know!

Also, let me know if you guys have any recommendation’s of restaurants, fast food places, coffee shops, etc. that you think I should try and review. I love getting recommendations from you guys! 🙂

Thanks for reading!

It’s My 1-Year Blogiversary!

I cannot BELIEVE it’s already been a year since I first started my blog. Happy 1-year Blogiversary to me! 😀 Time really flew by.

This time last year I was just starting out at my first job right out of college (that I’m still currently at) and starting my blog in the same week, and now here I am about to make a year with that as well.

So much has happened this past year, good and bad. So many things have been accomplished, and so many lessons have been learned. It’s really been one helluva a year; whether or not that’s meant to be said in a good way is still to be determined, but regardless here we are!

By now it’s been almost a week since my birthday, and I thought I would update you on where I’m at now in my life, with my blog and what I hope to do in the future.

* * * * * *

If you follow me on social media (which, if you don’t you totally should!), you would’ve seen that I was posting like crazy last weekend for my birthday; pictures, videos, etc. Some of just myself or with my family or with Diego or with friends.

Ultimately, I really didn’t do anything CRAZY, but the little things I DID do (or had done for me) were so cute and fun.

I turned 23 years old last Friday, and something about it really sparked something in me, almost like an epiphany so to speak.

IMG_3313

If you’re one of my dedicated readers that have been consistently reading my stuff since the beginning and more so recently, you’ve probably seen that these past few weeks have been kind of rough. I’ve felt really lost and alone and like I didn’t really know what I was doing with my life.

But, something about my birthday last weekend really changed that, which I’m sure sounds kind of crazy, because how can things just change from one day to the next right? But it’s true.

I felt a sort of happiness and confidence that I hadn’t felt in SUCH a long time. And if you know me, you know that I don’t typically get excited for my birthday because there’s always something that happens which kind of ruins it, but more so this year I definitely was NOT looking forward to it.

IMG_3101IMG_3062

There was a few different reasons for me feeling this way, but overall I just wasn’t expecting anything to be done for it since everyone was going to be busy (or the important people I wanted around anyway) and/or doing their own thing.

However, it ended up being such an amazing overall weekend filled with surprises left and right from my parents, Diego and my brother that I did not expect, but am super appreciative for.

IMG_3403

Anyway, where I was getting with that is that through all of this and all of the surprises, pictures, etc. I felt this sudden sense of confidence within myself. Something about my birthday this year and turning a year older that made me feel really good about where I’m at with my life and told me that everything was going to be okay. I can’t even fully explain the feeling or thoughts I had surrounding this, but this is as descriptive as I can get about it.

It made me feel like this upcoming year, and the years to come, were going to be good ones. It gave me a sort of push in a way, I guess you can say, because it made me want to do SO many things differently, start so many things, push to do more of certain things, etc.

* * * * * *

That being said, I just really want to take a second and thank every one of my followers (whether you’re family, a friend or a complete stranger) for always reading my stuff. It really does mean a lot. And it means even more when I get feedback from you guys about my posts; what you liked, how you related to it, etc.

I’ve always said since the very beginning that this is an open space for not only myself, but you guys as my followers, and that if I can do one thing with my blog and writing in general, it would be to try making a difference somehow. To talk about things that people might not typically speak about. To have someone/something for you guys to relate to with some of your own possible personal issues or experiences, and so on.

I’ve been saying this for a while, but I think this year is really going to be a good one. This year is going to be solely dedicated to making myself happy and healthy; focusing on my writing, reading more, traveling more, etc.

I don’t think anything is as important to me as my writing and the way I feel about it. I’m feeling so much more comfortable with my writing and being able to put my stuff out there, so I can’t wait for you guys to see my future posts.

Thank you to those of you that have actually always supported me and my writing, and I am SO excited to see where this next year is going to take me with my blog and writing in general…. stay tuned! 😉

Until my next post….

23 Things I’ve Learned At This Point of My Life

In light of my 23rd birthday today, I thought it would be nice to share with you guys 23 things that I’ve learned this past year and throughout my life in general thus far.

* * * * * *

In no particular order:

  1. Always put yourself and your happiness first, no matter the person or situation.

2. Don’t be afraid to take risks.

3. Not everyone is going to have the same mentality as you (regardless of in a positive or negative way).

4. Always make time for yourself at some point in the day, whether you’re reading, writing, going to the gym or doing something as simple as a skincare routine, it’s necessary for you to take care of yourself first to many extents.

5. Be grateful for everything in your life, whether big or small.

6. Don’t take things so seriously in life or personal.

7. Sometimes its okay to just walk away (from a person or situation).

8. Not all friendships are meant to last, no matter how long you’ve had them.

9. It’s okay to spend and enjoy time by yourself sometimes, in fact, it’s kind of necessary.

10. Don’t be afraid to lean on the people around you, whether that’s family, a significant other, or your closest friend(s). I 100% get not wanting to feel like a burden to people with your problems, but there are people around you who genuinely care about you and want to be there for you (even if it may be a handful or select few of people, they ARE there).

11. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and fail.

12. Give yourself credit when it’s due, no matter how big or small the accomplishment, task, etc. is.

13. Treat yourself occasionally! Obviously try not to go overboard, but everyone deserves to be treated sometimes. Don’t wait for someone else to do it for you, do it for yourself. Get a mani/pedi, do some retail therapy, whatever it is that you want. If you know you’re a hard-worker and you deserve it, then why not?

14. Don’t ever be sorry for who or how you are. Unless you know it’s a bad habit or something that you need to change, but don’t ever let someone make you feel bad for being a certain way because chances are, you’re that way for a reason.

15. If you never try and put yourself out there, you’ll never really know what you’re capable of (in any/all aspects).

16. The type of energy and vibes that you send out towards people and to the world in general, is exactly what you’re going to get back. Nothing more, nothing less.

17. It’s okay to not always be okay. You don’t always have to be strong all the time, no matter what people or society in general may say or make it seem.

18. Everyone does things at their own pace, “Just because you took longer than others, doesn’t mean you failed or aren’t good enough.” Therefore, don’t compare yourself to anyone else.

19. Don’t let your issues and/or mistakes define who you are because they don’t. Learn from them and move forward with your life (to the best of your ability).

20. Make the best out of everything currently in your life, whether it’s a situation you’re dealing with or material things you may have (or lack thereof).

21. Hard-work NEVER goes unnoticed (believe it or not), someone will always recognize it and give you credit for it, trust me.

22. Have fun and do things that make you genuinely happy, because life is too short to do anything BUT things that make you happy.

23. It’s just a bad day/week/month/year, not a bad life. Don’t take a shitty day(s) and make it seem like you have a horrible life. Take whatever’s happened to you on that day(s) and use it to have better days later on.

Thanks for reading!
