Recap Of Christmas Weekend

Andddddd we’re back to regularly scheduled programming :/

Who else is bummed that Christmas is officially over?! Because I know I definitely am 😦 . But, at the same time, I’m actually really happy because I had a REALLY great and memorable weekend (unexpectedly at that).

I ALWAYS look forward to Christmas-time, as I’ve mentioned several times before in other posts, but I also don’t ever expect much just because it’s always relatively quiet in my house, and we (my immediate family) always end up staying home and just being with each other.

THIS YEAR, however, was completely different (in a great way). I say that because this year we got to spend it with extended family, something that we haven’t done for one reason or another in YEARS.

Now don’t get me wrong, just spending it with my immediate family for the past few years was always nice too and comfortable, but it really is always a great time when we get together with our extended family too.

* * * * * *

Family Time!

So, this year we were able to spend Christmas Eve AND Christmas Day with my mom’s side of the family. Christmas Eve we hosted at our house, which was Christmas Pajama themed, and Christmas Day we spent at my Godfather and aunt’s house, which was Christmas Slipper themed.

Both were ridiculously fun, filled with Christmas music, laughter, gift giving, games, karaoke and an overwhelming amount of food and desserts (not complaining about that though lol).

When we (the cousins) were all younger, it would be like our little Christmas tradition to always get together and spend Christmas at SOMEONE’S house from the family. So the fact that for a while there it had stopped was kind of sad, but I’m SO glad we finally got to pick up on it because it was definitely a blast.

*Also, if you read my ‘The Christmas Tag’ post from Blogmas day 1 (which I’ll leave linked here if you want to check it out), you would’ve seen that my top “Christmas wish” was to be able to have this happen, so the fact that it actually DID was really awesome for me.*

Overall, it was a really great weekend, and although it wasn’t my ENTIRE family there with us (from both sides), and some important people were missing, it was still fun and extremely memorable.

Plus, I got a ton of great stuff this Christmas, which was another surprising thing because I really don’t ever tend to tell people things I want for Christmas and/or give them a wishlist anymore. But, let’s get into a few of the things I got….

* * * * * *

Presents!!

Firstly, I just want to start off by saying that I’m not usually the type to show off every single thing I get for my birthday, Christmas, etc., I just find it kind of weird and also tend to feel bad.

Sure, I’m grateful for everything I get, and I’ll show one or 2 things that I really love, but overall I just end up feeling bad about it because I never want to make it seem like I’m throwing things in peoples faces. What if they can’t afford things like that? Or what if they don’t usually get things for these occasions at all? Just a few of the things that go through my mind for things like this…

However, I’ve come to realize that doing what I’m doing now (blogging) and how into it I’ve gotten, it’s kind of a necessity to do that. Not necessarily show off the things I have, wear, etc., but to the same extent, that’s kind of exactly what it is, which is why more and more recently I’ve been sharing things like that with you guys.

So that’s what I’m going to be doing right now, sharing with you guys a few of the great gifts I received from my loved ones this year 🙂

  1. The first few things I want to mention are actually stuff that Diego got for me. We’re actually really weird when it comes to gift giving, because we get so excited about doing it and what we got the other person that we end up talking about it ALL the time (without actually saying what it is), and have the anticipation kill the other person lol. This year he got me this GORGEOUS Coach bag (which he knew I needed because although I almost never switch out my bag(s) once I get used to them, it was LONG overdue for a new one) and 2 masks from the brand GlamGlow because he knows I LOVE face masks. ❤

Gifts from Diego ❤

2. These aren’t all of them, but they are a few of the gifts that I received from my parents. I’ve never heard of the brand that blue bag is from, but it’s called Karl Lagerfeld Paris and I think it’s SO cute. Tiny, but definitely fashionable and can hold quite a few of my little things that I typically tend to carry in my purses. Then you have these UGG rain/snow boots which are great too because I’ve been DYING for a pair of boots like this for the longest, and what better then a simple black pair? Then you have this Miss Dior perfume that I’ve been wanting because it smells SO pretty AND……it’s Demi’s favorite perfume ….are you surprised? You shouldn’t be….And finally, you have this cute little Christmas story book. If you guys haven’t realized by now, I’m a bigass kid, ESPECIALLY when it comes to cute little things like this, I mean c’mon….LOOK AT IT!!!!! 😭😍 Plus, I cannot WAIT until I have kids one day to read these to them, and even pass them along to them…ugh it’s going to be the best!! (Again, just a few of the things they got me, not all).

(Some) Gifts from my parents ❤

3. This is a gift I actually got from a good friend of mine and Diego’s named Geno. How freakin’ dope are these?! I’ve come to REALLY love this brand and it’s style. So far, I have a t-shirt from them (courtesy of Diego), another pair of sneakers although they’re off-white (also courtesy of Diego), and now these!! Can’t wait to take some cool pictures with these on and show them to you guys! 😀

4. And finally……the gifts I received from my brother and his fiance!! You guys, I was so damn excited when I saw this….lol. For those of you that don’t know, I’m a HUGE Potterhead, so this was ridiculously exciting for me!! It’s actually pretty funny, because about a month ago, I had told Chris (my brother), that if no one got me a wand for Christmas…everyone hated me, and he/they actually remembered and did it!! 😂. Plus, the books are always great to read (especially now with the illustrations to back them up), and I love penguins AND fuzzy socks, so it was a general win/win for me. Thanks guys!! ❤

I hope that you guys not only enjoyed this post, but also had an AMAZING Christmas with your family, friends and/or general loved ones, and that you got everything you wanted.

Please follow, like, share and comment and I’ll see you guys in my next post!

What I Eat Throughout My Diet

Hi Guys and Happy Sunday!

For today’s post I thought it would be good to share with you guys what it is I’ve been eating throughout my diet recently (similar to a what I eat in a day type of post).

*I also am going to end up doing a fitness update/progress in my diet type of post in the days to come to show you guys the type of results I’ve been seeing in my body recently, so stay tuned for that as well!*

Something to keep in mind is that, as I’ve mentioned in several other posts of mine, I am an EXTREMELY picky-eater, which definitely has its ups and downs. But because of that, I’ve had to finds ways to work around that with my diet (which I’ll go a little more in depth about later on in the post).

For those of you that don’t know, because I am a picky-eater, I don’t eat any of your usual “healthy foods” like salads, vegetables, fruits, etc.

*Cue the dramatic judgments and criticisms…..I’ll wait……🙄*

Done? Okay let’s move on.

I’ve heard it time and time again🤦🏻‍♀️. I know that I should and need to be eating these things, but it’s hard when I’m 23 years-old now, have never really eaten any of these things before, and now suddenly just start. It’s a slow and steady process, but trust me when I say I’ve been working on it and little by little I’ve been trying and liking more “healthier” foods.

Although I have been slowly starting to expand my healthier food options, for the sake of this post, I’m just going to be mentioning the things that I eat/drink fairly regularly.

So without further adieu, let’s get started! 🙂

* * * * * *

Two important things to note about all of the foods, drinks, snacks, etc. that I’m going to mention are that 1. I weigh everything that I eat (unless they’re little snack packets like you’ll see below) and 2. I track everything I eat and drink in my Fitness Pal app which I’ve mentioned in a few different posts now.

For those of you that may be interested, the specific food scale that I got was actually from Amazon, and it was only like $17. I’ll leave that linked here in case you guys were interested in checking that out.

Weighing my food has really been good at teaching me about portion control and just generally being more knowledgeable about the amounts of carbs, protein, fats, etc. that my body is intaking. It’s something that Diego introduced me to do about a year ago at this point, so if you’ve never done it before, I highly suggest that you do.

But let’s continue….

Breakfast:

Personally. I am SUCH a breakfast person. It’s not something that I feel like I NEED in order for my mornings/days to officially start, but if I do have it, it just makes my morning THAT much better. However, although I may love being able to have breakfast, because I tend to be a procrastinator in the mornings, and just generally really slow, I don’t always get to have it.

In a week, I would say I probably only get to make or get breakfast about 3-4 times throughout the week (including weekends, which isn’t TOO bad).

BUT, if I do end up being able to, chances are I’m going to have 1 of these 3 things:

Egg and cheese omelet

Nothing crazy or special.

IMG_1718

Bacon, egg and cheese

(Egg whites, turkey bacon and cheese, absolutely BOMB from this place called Cafe Basil if you’re in the city!!).

IMG_1639

Reduced Fat Turkey Bacon sandwich

From Starbucks, which just has egg whites, reduced-fat white cheddar cheese, and reduced-fat turkey bacon on an organic wheat English muffin.

healthy-restaurant-dishes-500-starbucks

I’m a coffee gal. So every single day religiously, if I don’t have breakfast, I AT LEAST have to have my coffee. My usual Starbucks order is a Grande Caramel Macchiato with an extra shot of espresso (3 instead of 2), instead of vanilla syrup, sugar free vanilla syrup, and skim milk instead of regular.

o-COFFEE-570

Now during the holidays, however, I’m a sucker for the holiday drinks in Starbucks, so I’ll typically treat myself most mornings to the Caramel Brûlée Latte (shown below).

SBX20140609_28220.tif

After my morning coffee, I’ve gotten into the habit of drinking tea. I used to be one that HATED tea, and never wanted to drink it because of the taste or smell of it, but now I literally LOVE it.

Let’s keep in mind at the moment, it’s only from this specific brand (Yogi), but nonetheless it’s tea and I’ve tried quite a few different flavors and I actually really like them.

The “flavors” from this brand that I’ve tried and like so far are the DeTox one (shown below, and is also my favorite), the Lemon Ginger, the plain Ginger, etc. But I only drink it once a day, after my coffee.

IMG_1698

After my coffee and tea, for the remainder of the day after that, I drink nothing but water. WATER. WATER. WATER!!! This is super important.

I typically try to drink at least 1 gallon of water a day. However, I don’t buy the entire jug of water and drink that. What I do is I have my 16.9 fl. oz bottle of water, and just constantly re-fill and drink that throughout my day.

1 Gallon= 128 fl. oz. Throughout my work day, I can generally drink about 5 bottles of water, which equals to about 84.5 fl. oz. Add in the fact that I go to the gym after work, and throughout my workout I drink another 20 oz from my shaker cup, that’s 104.5 oz. THEN once I get home, I drink one of those Essentia water bottles, which is another 33.8 oz, that’s 138.3 oz at the end of my day.

Keep in mind it doesn’t always work out like that every single day, but most times that’s usually how it goes while I’m at work.

Lunch:

Please don’t judge the type of foods that I tend to eat for lunch. These are things that not only do I actually like, but they’re also pretty good with my diet, and not too high or bad for my macros (carbs, proteins, fats) that I should be intaking.

(Yes, I know I’m a pretty plain eater)

White rice and honey battered chicken.

IMG_1665

Mashed Potatoes with Grilled Chicken Thigh and Grilled Chicken Leg.

IMG_1697

Fettuccine Alfredo Pasta With Cut-up Pieces of Chicken Breast.

IMG_1812

That is obviously not all of the foods that I eat every single day for lunch, but I just figure I mention a few of my favorites for the sake of not making this post super long.

Snacks:

I’m a BIG junk food person, so when I decided that I wanted/need to turn my health around, the hardest thing for me to give up was junk-food. That being said, I knew going into this that I HAD to look for healthier alternatives because I wasn’t going to be able to cut everything out cold turkey.

So these were a few things that I ended up finding:

IMG_1563

IMG_1567

IMG_1569

IMG_1651

I don’t really tend to eat dinner anymore, just because I don’t usually get hungry at that time the way that I used to. But if I did, I’ll either make a little something, eat some leftovers that may be in the house at the time, or just settle on having one of my little snacks.

This is kind of separate, but on weekends (mainly Saturdays, but occasionally Fridays too) is when I’ll usually have my cheat days and won’t count calories or really care about what it is I’m eating. Especially since those days are usually when Diego and I will have our date nights.

* * * * * *

Well that’s it. Those are pretty much the majority of the things I tend to eat throughout my diet. I don’t necessarily know if this will help anyone at all, but I thought it would be nice to share this with you guys.

Hopefully I can do a more updated post about this in a few months when I’ve expanded the type of healthier foods I eat, but for now this is it.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post, thanks so much for reading, and I’ll see you all in the next one! 🙂

On The Menu Today: P.J. Clarke’s

What’s up everybody?! Happy Sunday! 😀 Hope you guys had a great weekend and are getting yourselves ready to kickass this coming week!

Today’s post is (finally) another food/restaurant one! 🙂 I know it’s been a while, but we haven’t really been able to go out and try different places as often the way that we used to, for a variety of different reasons. BUUUUT nonetheless, we finally did and so here we are today! 😉

The place I’m talking about is called P.J. Clarke’s, which I know they actually apparently have quite a few different locations around New York, but I’m specifically going to be speaking about the one in Brookfield Place, near the Freedom Tower.

* * * * * *

IMG_1138

Background Story:

I find that whenever I do one of these posts, I always end up giving you guys a little bit of background information for how we came across the restaurants that we do, so I figure why not continue on with that mini tradition lol.

Ultimately, this is the restaurant that Diego and I had went to when we celebrated our 4-year anniversary.

If I remember correctly, we were just kind of walking around the Brookfield Place mall (which is humongous and absolutely STUNNING, if you haven’t been there before, you HAVE to make the trip over!!), and we went in because Diego wanted to walk around the Saks Fifth Avenue Men’s Store, so while he was walking around, I just kind of looked out the window, looked down, and saw that there was a ton of like large “fairy” lights strung all around the trees. So, I told Diego about it and we figure we go check it out, and when we did, we obviously saw that it was a restaurant, and just decided to try it.

Being that it was like in the middle of the summer, we did get to sit outside, which was absolutely beautiful because it was right next to the water. The scenery was beautiful, the food was amazing, and the service was just as great; so of course we decided we wanted to go back again, which we did last Saturday, but this time we went with my best friend Michelle as well.

IMG_1157

It’s obviously no longer summer, and it was actually really chilly last weekend when we went, so we opted for sitting indoors, which wasn’t bad at all because it was actually pretty cozy.

The general decor of the restaurant (although I really liked it) gave me major Italian vibes for some reason, even though they’re predominantly known for their burgers and ‘raw bar’.

* * * * * *

Food & Service:

One thing to keep in mind with us (all 3 of us specifically whenever we get together), is that we always like to incorporate at LEAST a little bit of alcohol, and a whole lot of food….we can EAT.

So with that being said, of course we started off by ordering a bottle of rosé wine, which Diego picked out for us, and it was SO good. Personally, I’m a white wine type of girl and I know Michelle is too so that was right up our alley.

IMG_1143

IMG_1243

Next, of course came the appetizer, which is anyone at all surprised that we ordered wings for that? Because you really shouldn’t be at this point….we’re major wing lovers haha.

I never used to be one to care for spiciness in any of my foods/meats, but I guess dating Diego for as long as I have has actually made me grow really fond of it because now whenever we go out I’m usually the one to order hot/spicy wings (although my tolerance for it really isn’t anything crazy yet). That being said, we ordered wings that had a bit of a kick to it, but were still REALLY good.

IMG_1148

Next up for us came the entrées.

I guess I was the only one being fake boujee this day, because everyone else just got burgers while I got a steak lol.

Diego got the Smoky Poblano burger (shown below), which pretty much has Roasted Poblano, Sharp Cheddar and Green Herb Sauce, and he said it was pretty good.

IMG_1250

Michelle got a burger as well, but she actually got the The “Cadillac” which has Double Smoked Country Bacon, Onion, and American Cheese (we forgot to ask her to take a picture of her burger). Although she did tell us it was really good and a decent sized burger as well.

For me, I was REALLY craving the steak again that I had gotten the first time we came here for some reason, so that’s what I ended up getting (see below). I got the Prime Skirt Steak Frites, and that was absolutely delicious to me.

*All of our orders came with fries btw*

IMG_1152

Anddddddddd then all of our class went out the window….

Jk, we did decide to end up taking a shot though which was fun, and something we don’t do all that often altogether haha. It was just a regular shot of Patron…no real relevance to the post other than that it was a really funny experience for all of us including the server we had.

IMG_1203

And FINALLY, dessert….I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m a huge dessert person. If I’m at a restaurant and I know they have good desserts, 100% I am going to get something.

The first time Diego and I came here, we got this huge piece of chocolate cake and OH-MY-GOD. It was SO freakin’ good, seriously. Personally, I’m a chocolate-lover so this was everything to me lol, and the piece they gave us was HUGE, I’m not really sure if it was intentional or not, but regardless we really liked it (see below).

IMG_1275

The second time we went, I fully intended on getting the chocolate cake for all of us to split again, until I saw the dessert menu and saw that they had a seasonal PUMPKIN PIE CHEESECAKE!!!! You guys KNOW I had to get that as soon as I saw it, and Diego 100% agreed because he loves that as much as I do lol.

I also just generally think that they tend to give big portion sizes of their foods/desserts (which I’m totally not complaining about), because we got 2 slices for all of us to share thinking it wasn’t going to be enough, but both slices were HUGE, and we were just feeling extra fat and craving ice cream so we got the vanilla ice cream on the side as well ❤ _ ❤ (see below).

IMG_1256

Final Thoughts:

Overall, we all really liked this restaurant, the first time Diego and I came here for our anniversary in July, and the second time we came last weekend with Michelle. The food was just as great this time around as it was the first time. Our servers the first and second time were super friendly and helpful with any and all indecisiveness that we may have had in picking certain things. And the general ambiance of the restaurant was really nice as well as it’s surroundings with the waterfront and mall.

I will say that this restaurant is more on the pricier side as opposed to some of the other ones I’ve mentioned/recommended before, but I also think it was very much worth it, so I do 100% recommend you guys come and try this place if you haven’t already and are in the New York area.

Let me know if there are any other particular restaurants or food spots (predominantly in the New York area) that you would recommend for us to try and review, and we’ll definitely try it!

I hope you guys enjoyed this post, please like, share and follow if you haven’t already, and I’ll see you guys in my next one! 🙂

-Xoxo, LeoGirl ❤
