Confidence Is Key

You guys, if there’s any 2 things that I can take away from 2018 thus far, it’s that 1. if you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will and 2. confidence is EVERYTHING.

2 majorly important things, that which are not at all easy to achieve for some. In fact, for some (many…..most?), these 2 things are things that take YEARS to master.

You need to believe in yourself in order for other people to, and not in a “you have to please and/or prove anything” to them type of way, but more of in a “oh he/she is not only serious about what it is they’re doing, but they’re also owning the heck out of it,” sort of way. There’s a major difference.

I’ve learned that doing that (along with your actual work obviously) is going to end up not only attracting more people to you as a person, but also whatever work it is that you’re trying to put out there to the world.

* * * * * *

As I said, I’m fully aware that confidence like this doesn’t happen overnight, in fact, it’s something that may take YEARS for you or anyone to perfect, but that’s okay.

People are going to talk regardless if you’re succeeding or failing at whatever it is that you want to do with your life. There are ALWAYS going to be haters, critics, and people who just generally don’t care about the work you’re putting out into the world. Which, for a long time it’s going to suck to see, but as long as YOU know that you’re working hard and being the best version of you and your work possible, that is ALL that should truly matter.

Although most times it’s easier said than done, you need to do your best to ignore any and all negativity that may be blocking you from doing your best work. Being insecure about putting yourself out there and receiving negative or no feedback at all can be REALLY discouraging, that’s normal, but you can’t just let those feelings take over and win.

Take those feelings and use them as motivation to add fuel to your fire to want to do TEN TIMES better than you were before, because if you keep trying your hardest to put that all aside and putting your best work out there, I promise that slowly but surely you will begin to see results.

* * * * * *

I’m not an expert, and I’m obviously still learning with each day that passes, but I’ve dealt with this SO many times, so speaking from experience, take it from me. I’ve been doing this blogging thing for a little over a year now, and similar to doing YouTube, sometimes it gets REALLY hard, harder than people may think. That’s because there are so many bloggers out here trying to make it and trying to do what I’m doing that it gets discouraging to see sometimes when I don’t get likes, views, comments or followers on my post.

I used to take it SO hard, to the point where it would stop me from wanting to write altogether, and don’t get me wrong, every once in a while it still happens, but after reading various bloggers’ advice/tips on how to see results and get better with your blog, PLUS this book I read (which I’ll speak more about later on) and other things on the internet, I gained my confidence back and learned a few things…

  1. How do I ever expect to achieve a fraction of the dreams/goals I have for myself if I get discouraged and just stop altogether? I told myself that although it may be a little difficult right now, that I knew what I was capable of with my writing and reminded myself about what exactly I wanted to do and get out of this one day.

And 2. Although there may be a lot of people with similar blog themes, topic ideas, etc., no one will EVER have the exact same way of thinking, writing and/or expressing their thoughts as me. Everyone, including myself, is different in how they do things believe it or not. We may all have similar ideas, but we express them in unique ways. NO TWO PEOPLE ARE THE SAME!!

Obviously I specified these examples for my specific case with writing and my blog, but it’s equally the same with any other field as well. It’s all about finding what you’re good at, making yourself stand out from the rest somehow, and just perfecting it from there. It IS do-able!

I mentioned earlier that there was a book I read that actually REALLY helped me gain some of my confidence back. The name of the book is “YOU ARE A BADASS; HOW TO STOP DOUBTING YOUR GREATNESS AND START LIVING AN AWESOME LIFE,” by: Jen Sincero. It’s actually a pretty popular book, so many of you may already have seen/heard of it before and I’ve actually spoken about it before in my ‘Top 5 Favorite Motivational Books’ post (which I’ll leave linked here if you guys wanted to check it out), but if you haven’t, I HIGHLY recommend that you pick it up.

Just based off of the title alone, I think it’s self-explanatory, but it really is a great and super-relatable book. Anyone that’s read it before I’m sure can vouch for that. It’s also not a complicated book at all, in fact, it’s full of quotes, examples and personal stories from the author that really help to break it down for anyone that may be lacking the confidence in themselves to succeed and conquer their dream(s).

I’m attaching the link for you guys here to be able to purchase it. I also am posting a snippet of it for you guys to determine for sure if you’d be interested and want to actually buy it.

Rome wasn’t built in a day and hard-work never goes unnoticed (believe it or not). Believe in yourself, keep working hard no matter what and own the shit out of whatever it is that you’re most passionate about and want to do and watch the positive outcome for it happen sooner rather than later.

5 Go-To Apps I Have On My Phone

Hi Guys! Happy hump day! 🙂

For today’s post I thought it would be fun to share with you guys five of my go-to apps that I have on my phone. The apps that I’m going to mention are the ones that I pretty much use daily and/or just generally, that really come in handy to me.

I’m not including any social media ones just because yes obviously I use all of my social media apps/accounts regularly, but they’re not really that important.

Not only are the apps I’m going to mention the ones that I use almost daily, but I also find them (personally) pretty important which I’ll go into detail for why in a bit.

So without further adieu…

* * * * * *

In no particular order:

  1. My Fitness Pal

My-Fitness-Pal-App

I have actually spoken about this app a few times on my blog throughout a few of my fitness posts. Ultimately it’s a great app if you’re into fitness because it allows you to keep track of everything from what you eat throughout the day, to the amount of calories you need to intake, to how many steps you’ve taken in a day, your weight, etc.

I highly recommend downloading this app ESPECIALLY if you’re just starting your fitness journey because it’s a great place to keep track of everything like this in one specific place.

2. Eternal Sunshine

I don’t really know or remember how I came across this app, but I am SO glad that I did. It’s just a really great motivational app. If you happen to have and/or just know of the app called A Sprinkle of Jesus, I think it’s pretty similar to that. Every day, at least 3-4 times a day, I get notifications for inspirational/motivational quotes, daily mantras to tell myself in order to get motivated about other things, etc.

I never realized how much I needed this app until I finally got it and saw the kind of notifications I was getting from it. 10/10 recommend if you’re looking for motivation every now and then.

3. Citizen

If you’re anything like me and happen to get anxiety fairly quickly, this might not be the best app for you. However, I do have it just because as much as I may dislike the notifications I get from it all the time, I do also like to be in the know and aware of things that are going on around me.

Ultimately it’s an app that if you put in some credentials for yourself and the area you live in, it’ll update you on and any all crime that happens to be going on in the general vicinity. Everything from serious stuff like murders, to much less serious stuff like 2 people simply fighting in the area. It also allows you to chat with other people in the same vicinity that may have other details about what’s going in that incident, as well as post any possible pictures/videos of any incidences that occurred.

4. Retail-Me-Not

If you happen to go out shopping a lot, and especially look for coupons/discounts while doing it, I sincerely hope and recommend that you download this app. It is perfect for finding deals that may be going on in particular store favorites of yours.

I’m not exactly sure how many stores that they include in this and how they go about choosing the people/stores they want apart of it, but once you get into the app, it allows you to search for particular stores that you want and show if there are any deals and discounts going on in that store currently or online.

5. And finally, WordPress

Surprised? You shouldn’t be. If you happen to have a blog and use this particular site for it, this is the perfect app to have on your phone. It’s literally just a handle-held version of the site. You can check all of your stats, start and/or edit blog posts, etc. It’s super convenient especially if for whatever reason I happen to be wanting to publish a post, but am not around a computer, I can just do it right there and then on the app.

* * * * * *

I hope this was helpful to you guys in some type of way. Leave me a comment down below or on my social media accounts about some of YOUR go-to apps you have on your phone and I’ll be sure to check them out!

I hope you guys enjoyed this post, thanks so much for reading and I’ll see you guys in the next one 🙂

23 Things I’ve Learned At This Point of My Life

In light of my 23rd birthday today, I thought it would be nice to share with you guys 23 things that I’ve learned this past year and throughout my life in general thus far.

* * * * * *

In no particular order:

  1. Always put yourself and your happiness first, no matter the person or situation.

2. Don’t be afraid to take risks.

3. Not everyone is going to have the same mentality as you (regardless of in a positive or negative way).

4. Always make time for yourself at some point in the day, whether you’re reading, writing, going to the gym or doing something as simple as a skincare routine, it’s necessary for you to take care of yourself first to many extents.

5. Be grateful for everything in your life, whether big or small.

6. Don’t take things so seriously in life or personal.

7. Sometimes its okay to just walk away (from a person or situation).

8. Not all friendships are meant to last, no matter how long you’ve had them.

9. It’s okay to spend and enjoy time by yourself sometimes, in fact, it’s kind of necessary.

10. Don’t be afraid to lean on the people around you, whether that’s family, a significant other, or your closest friend(s). I 100% get not wanting to feel like a burden to people with your problems, but there are people around you who genuinely care about you and want to be there for you (even if it may be a handful or select few of people, they ARE there).

11. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and fail.

12. Give yourself credit when it’s due, no matter how big or small the accomplishment, task, etc. is.

13. Treat yourself occasionally! Obviously try not to go overboard, but everyone deserves to be treated sometimes. Don’t wait for someone else to do it for you, do it for yourself. Get a mani/pedi, do some retail therapy, whatever it is that you want. If you know you’re a hard-worker and you deserve it, then why not?

14. Don’t ever be sorry for who or how you are. Unless you know it’s a bad habit or something that you need to change, but don’t ever let someone make you feel bad for being a certain way because chances are, you’re that way for a reason.

15. If you never try and put yourself out there, you’ll never really know what you’re capable of (in any/all aspects).

16. The type of energy and vibes that you send out towards people and to the world in general, is exactly what you’re going to get back. Nothing more, nothing less.

17. It’s okay to not always be okay. You don’t always have to be strong all the time, no matter what people or society in general may say or make it seem.

18. Everyone does things at their own pace, “Just because you took longer than others, doesn’t mean you failed or aren’t good enough.” Therefore, don’t compare yourself to anyone else.

19. Don’t let your issues and/or mistakes define who you are because they don’t. Learn from them and move forward with your life (to the best of your ability).

20. Make the best out of everything currently in your life, whether it’s a situation you’re dealing with or material things you may have (or lack thereof).

21. Hard-work NEVER goes unnoticed (believe it or not), someone will always recognize it and give you credit for it, trust me.

22. Have fun and do things that make you genuinely happy, because life is too short to do anything BUT things that make you happy.

23. It’s just a bad day/week/month/year, not a bad life. Don’t take a shitty day(s) and make it seem like you have a horrible life. Take whatever’s happened to you on that day(s) and use it to have better days later on.

Thanks for reading!

-Xoxo, Leo Girl ❤
