Making The Most Out of a Bad Situation

Hey guys, how’s everything going?

I hope that you all are doing well and staying healthy and safe in the comforts of your own homes with your families, significant others, etc.

For today’s post I wanted to talk a little bit about making the best out of a bad situation, which I think we can ALL agree that we’re kind of in right now with the whole “quarantine” stuff going on.

I did a similar post to this about 2 years ago (which I’ll leave linked here if you want to check it out), and as I just mentioned, given the circumstances of where we all are right now and what’s going on in the world, I thought it was important to re-create it to some extent.

It’s awful, it’s annoying and it REALLY sucks, but in this very moment, we unfortunately cannot do much to change the ways things are other than following what medical experts and our elected officials are telling us to do which is to STAY INSIDE. Don’t go out. Don’t come into contact with too many people at a time. And try to be as smart about all this (as far as stocking up on food and necessities) as possible.

I’m not saying it’s going to be easy because it’s definitely not, but I can only continue to hope and pray that by doing all of this and following the “rules” that these officials are giving us, that it’s going to make things better with each day that passes.

* * * * * *

Since all of this is so out of our hands and up in the air, the only thing I think we can REALLY do at this point is try to stay as busy, productive and distracted as possible while we’re stuck at home.

I for one am definitely the type that cannot stay still. Those of you that know me and/or follow me on social media know that I am always on the go, always have something going on or that I’m working on and typically tend to go stir crazy being stuck at home for more than just a day. However, under the circumstances, I don’t exactly have a choice. I/we are going to be at home for a LONG time. That being said, I’ve put together the below list of things that I plan on doing throughout this time in quarantine (aside from working lol), that also may peak your interest while being at home moving forward.

Things to do:

  • The first thing I personally am going to do is genuinely try to enjoy these first few days I’m home and off. Let’s get it out of our system whether it’s just the first day or first three. Personally I know these days are well deserved off for me, as I’m sure it’s the same for you guys as well. I’m saying to enjoy them as best you can and do nothing right off the back because realistically, when are we ever really going to get a chance like this again? Being at home, doing relatively nothing but relaxing and (more or less) not really having a care in the world. I don’t know about you guys, but I personally don’t get too many days like that in my day-to-day routine.
  • Start a new book or book series (i.e., the Twilight series, Harry Potter series, Hunger Games, Pretty Little Liars series, etc.). Something that will take you a while to get through.
  • Find and start a new TV series (or movie collection). With all of the different streaming services in the world today, it should not be difficult to find SOMETHING to watch and get into, even if you may not have cable.
  • Get into listening to Podcasts. People suggest this a lot, and when I first heard of that I was definitely like ehh, but then I started looking into it myself and finding certain ones that really peaked my interest and I got into it more and more. I would listen to them on the train going and/or coming from work. Walking home. I even used to listen to it as I was doing cardio sometimes. There are some really great and inspirational ones with amazing vibes within them (I have an entire post dedicated to my favorite ones which I’ll leave linked here if you guys want to check it out).
  • Practice Self-Care. There is no better time then right now to be able to practice self-care whether that’s taking care of your skin more regularly, giving yourself a mani/pedi, meditating, practicing yoga, etc. Take care of yourself now more than ever.
  • Home workouts. This one is SO important (for me personally anyway). One of the biggest disappointments I’ve had thus far throughout all of this is the fact that every single gym in New York is closed right now and I have no way of being able to strength train at the moment anymore. So, because of that I need to get a little creative and start to come up with a home workout routine because who knows how long I/we are going to be stuck home, but either way, summer is approaching so I’m still trying to have that ‘summer body’ mentality in mind and stay in shape.
  • Teach yourself how to cook/bake something new (or several new things). I’m actually kind of REALLY looking forward to this because I used to be so in love with the idea of cooking and baking when I was younger, I would always find and save recipes for my mom and I to be able to try making together (which we did a few times). But, as I got older, I started being more on the go and spending less time at home, which prompted me to never have time for making stuff for myself, so since I still live at home with my parents at the moment, whenever I get home at night my mom usually is the one to cook and leave stuff for me on the side. I know how to make a few things here and there, but I’m excited to hopefully take some more time out to learn how to make more meals for myself.
  • Spring cleaning!! This one is pretty big for me too because I’ve been saying for a while now that I want and need to take the time to just stay home, go through all of my clothes and what not and get rid of anything/everything that I don’t want or use anymore. SO I will 1000000% be taking advantage of this time home and finally be siting down to do that at some point. Out with the old, in with the new!!
  • Clean up and organize the pictures/videos on your phone. Since I’ve been taking my blogging and Instagram content more seriously in recent months, I’ve been taking SO many pictures. But because I end up taking so many, after I take the one or 2 that I end up using to post, I end up leaving all of the rest just kind of sitting in my camera roll from each individual shoot so there is a LOT of build in there at the moment. It is a must that I do a bit of spring cleaning in my camera roll throughout this time as well haha.
  • For my creators out there, take this time to try and plan (and execute if possible) new content!! It can be so difficult to plan out content sometimes, especially when you throw in having a 9-5, going to the gym early in the morning or right after work, balancing a relationship, friends, a home life, etc. Now is the PERFECT time to try planning out new content (whether it’s Instagram, YouTube, blog posts, etc.) for when we finally come out of quarantine. But also, try creating new content. It can be difficult because there’s only so much you can do at home, but this is the time to really try getting creative and putting things together for your personal brand or whatever you may be working on/towards.
  • and finally, take this time to RESEARCH and EDUCATE yourselves (as I obviously will myself) on all of the serious stuff going on in the world right now. Although it’s all the media seems to be talking about at the moment, I promise you that there is SO many other things going on in the world OTHER than the virus. DON’T listen to everything that news outlets and the media has to say, do your own research and help yourself understand all of this whether it’s with the virus, the financial repercussions that may or may not come out of this or all of the employment stuff going on and that will happen after all of this is over. Yes, it can be very scary and/or nerve-wrecking to read a lot of what’s going on or going to happen, but I personally would rather educate myself and somehow be prepared for what’s to come then go in blind and not know or understand half of what’s going on.

Life-Quotes-Dolly

I hope you guys enjoyed this post and that it genuinely was helpful to you in some way, shape or form. Things are SO difficult right now, but try using this time to take a step back from all your normal responsibilities for a little bit, relax, recharge and come back better then ever. Usually the new year is a time to really “start all over” and “start fresh,” but maybe THIS is what will be our fresh start.

This is the time to take advantage of all the free time we’re going to have in the coming days/weeks and do all of those things that we typically tend to put in the back burner because we “don’t have time.” Time is all we really have right now.

So on that note, stay productive. Stay inside. Stay healthy. Stay safe and I will see you guys in my next post.

4 Podcasts to Listen to When You’re Looking For Inspiration

This post is sort of going to be piggybacking off of my last 2 posts.

If you read my 8 Tips to Staying Motivated post a few days ago, you would’ve saw that one of the things I recommended and have been loving doing myself lately is listening to podcasts.

Now, I know that in the day and age that we live in everything is digital, and because of that, kids, people, etc. are more inclined to read and/or listen to something on their phone or tablets then they are to doing it the old fashion way of picking up an actual book or even listening to an actual record, which is why I think listening to podcasts is great.

If you happen to be one of these people, then keep reading…

Podcasts are really similar to eBooks, and are a great way for people to listen to speeches, motivational speakers, some of your favorite celebrities gossiping, etc. It’s pretty much like a radio on your phone haha.

In my ‘8 Tips’ post, I mentioned that recently whenever I’m heading home at night from the gym, I tend to listen to them now. I found a few that seemed really interesting to me, and from there it just kind of snowballed, so I figure I share my favorites with you guys for those of you that may be interested and looking for some extra inspiration in your life.

I found that these podcasts are SO good at giving you the little extra push you may need to push through whatever struggles you may be dealing with at the moment, or if you’re at a stand-still for one reason or another, etc. But, I find that one of the best things about them all is that it’s not pushing or motivating in an annoying, forceful way like jamming the “need” for school and work down your throats; it’s in a way that’s realistic and really makes you think and put things into perspective in your life.

That being said, I’m going to share with you guys the 4 different podcasts that I’ve been LOVING lately, and I’m sure you will too. (*Totally not planned to have 2 of them be from women and 2 from men btw lol*).

  1. Don’t Keep Your Day Job by: Cathy Heller

Don't-Keep-Your-Day-Job-Podcast-Art-2018-SEP

You guys…..to say that I’m OBSESSED with this podcast is a complete understatement. I don’t even remember how I came across it, but I’m SO glad that I did. When I first discovered Cathy’s podcast, I literally was on a binge of like a week straight listening to all her recent episodes. They were SO good and so freakin’ interesting. I can’t even tell you guys seriously how inspired I felt after listening to her, specifically, the 2 episodes that I would recommend listening to THE MOST, if any at all, are the ones she did titled “What They Don’t Teach In School, Part 1 and 2.” Those are the episodes that really got me hooked. 1000000% recommend to anyone looking for inspiration and trying to find themselves.

2. Bucci Radio by: Amanda Bucci

avatars-000300281133-99jqdy-original

This is a podcast I found because I just love Amanda Bucci in general. Amanda is a fitness and lifestyle entrepreneur. I was actually introduced to her entire platform by Diego a few years ago, when she was primarily focused on fitness and competing. Literally she was my fitness goals guys (and still is). But, what I think is AMAZING about her, is how much she’s expanded not only herself, but her brand waaaay past fitness, into something so much bigger and better now (not to say what she was doing before wasn’t great), into what she is today. AND SHE’S ONLY 24 YEARS OLD!! How crazy, but awesome at the same time. Her entire podcast is dedicated to “igniting your fire” and trying to help you figure out not only what your passionate about it, but also how to actually DO something about that passion. If you haven’t heard of and/or checked it out, I seriously recommend that you do ASAP.

**These next 2 podcasts that I’m going to mention are fairly new to me still, but I still have been really enjoying them so far and inspiring just like the first two do.**

3. This Is Your Life by: Michael Hyatt

1200x630bb

This is another great show for not only motivating, but also just trying to open your eyes and realize that everything you need for your future is ultimately right in front of you. He teaches how to not just SIMPLY live your life, how to work hard for things that make you happy and proud, how to lead by example and be a GOOD leader at that, and ultimately tips on how to start and create your own personal brand.

4.  And finally….The School of Greatness With Lewis Howes

1200x630bb (1)

Obviously all of the podcasts I’m recommending are intended to inspire,  so in that aspect, this is just like the others. However, they all do it in such similar, yet different ways. Lewis’ podcast is all about speaking on the different types of passions he has in his life, while also covering serious topics like people’s mental well-being, breaking through their fears and how to not just work hard, but work smart. He really makes you question all aspects of certain things, which I don’t know about you guys, but I love to have that happen. I love to be challenged and force myself to really think about something even if it may seem obvious. It stimulates your mind to question things about yourself and the things around you instead of just completely accepting them for what they are.  And because of this (among other things), I strongly recommend that you guys check him and his podcast out ASAP if you haven’t already.

* * * * * *

One of the biggest things I love about all of these podcasts is that like I said earlier, they’re not forceful and annoying motivation to the point where it’s like okay….we get it, shut up. Everything all of these people speak about in each one of their episodes is actually REALLY interesting and engaging.

Plus, although they are all AMAZING at what they do on their shows, it’s not like just them talking the entire time, all the time. They all tend to bring guests onto their show every so often to further prove the points they’re trying to make. And yes, occasionally they will be celebrities, but most times they’re not. Most times it’s real people, that have gone through real shit and have genuinely worked hard at whatever it is they love to do to get to where they are today, and that more than anything (to me) is the most inspirational part of it all.

I know that celebrities usually all have their own stories to share and they tend to go through real-life issues of their own obviously, but personally, I don’t want to hear about any of that. I want to hear about these real people that were really sick or dirt poor and how they never lost faith that things were going to get better for them, and never stopped working towards their goals until they got to where they wanted to be (which includes the hosts of these shows too obviously). And ALL of these podcasts never cease to disappoint in that aspect, which is what makes them my favorite and why I so badly wanted to share them with you guys.

* * * * * *

So there you have it. Hope you guys enjoyed this post and end up checking out some (or all) of the podcasts I recommended! Let me know in the comments or on social media which podcast ended up sparking your interest, OR if you have any of your own to recommend for me to check out. I’d love to hear from you guys about it!

See you guys in my next post!

8 Tips to Staying Motivated

I’ve been thinking a lot about this recently, because I know that there are always certain days more than others that I tend to need and/or seek that bit of extra motivation in my day to day routines. So, when I sat down to really think about it, I realized that these 8 tips are ones that almost always seem to help me when I’m lacking that motivation. Sometimes I’ll do all of them at some point of my day, and sometimes I’ll just do a few of them.

Nonetheless, these tips always end up being my go-to on those motivation-less days to help get me through the day. These are obviously things that tend to work for ME, and I am well aware that what works for me, may not work for everyone, but I figure I share them because you never know who could end being benefited by them.

So let’s get started! 🙂

  1. Do things you love and that make you happy. Pretty straight-forward and obvious, no? There’s a reason I mention this, because as obvious as it may seem, a lot of people tend to not do it very much. Some people are super strict in their day to day routines. They mostly only do the things that NEED to get done during the week, like going to work, getting errands done, etc. But, try not to be so serious all of the time. Make sure that you’re making time throughout your day to do things that make YOU happy; whether that’s during your lunch break at work, after work, a night-time routine you have, etc. It’s extremely important and needed in order for you to keep yourself going, and actually WANT to carry-on with the rest of your day.

2. Listen to music that hypes you up & makes you feel good. I don’t know about anyone else, but on my way to work every morning (which is about a 20-30 minute train ride and 5-10 minute walk afterwards), I always try to listen to particular songs that I know are not only going to really wake me up, but also hype me up to start my day. And 9 times out of 10, it works. The only “downside” to this is that by the end of it, I’ve got the beats stuck in my head, and all I really want to do is dance throughout the day, but ya gotta pick your battles right? 🤷🏻‍♀️😂. (*I’m planning on doing an entire post on the music that always ends up hyping me up and making me feel good, although it was going to be more so of a gym playlist kind of post, but I definitely want to incorporate this in there now*).

3. Wear clothes that you feel good in. I know this one can be a little tough, more so during the week because most people are working and what not, but who says you can’t look and feel cute at work? Screw what everyone says that you’re not there to impress anyone, I mean you’re not, but you should be impressing YOURSELF and make yourself FEEL good in whatever it is you’re wearing. Chances are if you look good, then you’re going to feel good, and if you’re feeling good, then you’re definitely going to want to kick ass and conquer the day.

4. Listen to podcasts. This has been SUCH a big one for me recently. I more so have been listening to these at night, on my way home from the gym, but nonetheless, it helps SO much. The inspirational podcasts I’ve been listening to in recent weeks has really become such a huge part of my night-time routine, and I’m SO glad that it has. Believe it or not, listening to motivational podcasts can really spark something in you to find what you’re passionate about in life and attempt to take whatever steps necessary to get where you want to be. (*I’m also planning on doing an entire post dedicated to my favorite motivational podcasts that have been inspiring me SO much lately, so stay tuned for that!*)

5. Go to your favorite place(s). You’d be surprised what going to some of your favorite places could do for you in sparking your motivation. There are 2 places in particular that I absolutely LOVE to go to, that almost always not only spark my motivation, but also my creativity and if I were lacking inspiration as well. It kind of helps me release any stress that I may have, clears my mind and gets everything rolling again.

6. Reading & looking up motivational quotes. Am I the only one that does this? Anytime I’m lacking motivation wherever I am (whether at home, work, etc.), I will legit sit and just look-up motivational quotes on Google. Believe it or not, it really does help (me anyway). It helps because it shows me that whatever I’m feeling, I’m not the ONLY one feeling it, and there’s a weird sense of comfort in that. I’ll look at different websites and images for motivational quotes, post and/or screenshot a few that I like the most, and viola I end up feeling the slightest bit better and more motivated then when I first started my day. Google never fails me!!

7. Thinking about the future and where you’re going to want to be in 5-10 years. This one is super important. Anytime that I am feeling unmotivated and like I’m at a stand-still in my life, I take just a few minutes to think about where I am right now and where I eventually know that I want to be in my life, in a few years, everything I want to have, everywhere that I want to go, etc. and I INSTANTLY feel better and more motivated then ever before. If you have goals that you want to achieve, and remember that everything you’re feeling and going through at the moment is just temporary, and keep in mind that you WILL get to where you want to be one day, I guarantee you that will spark your motivation more then it probably ever has. I don’t know about anyone else, but thinking and/or planning (to some extent) my future, from the smallest things to the biggest, is such an exciting feeling to do and makes me never want to stop working towards all of those dreams and goals that I have.

8. And finally, Go to the gym and workout. Is anyone else surprised that this one managed to get thrown in there somehow? 😂 But seriously, personally, being able to get a good sweat in everyday at the gym (even though it’s almost never at the very start of my day like many people typically tend to suggest), always makes me feel motivated after the fact. It makes me feel good in all aspects and makes me want to do more (not workout-wise). Again, this is one of those things that will make you look good, as a result make you feel good, and as a result of THAT make you want to continue to kick ass and push for more!

I hope these tips were helpful to you guys in one way or another and you find your motivation to keep going, because once you spark that, you can only go up-hill from there!
