My Favorite Healthy-ish Snacks

(*None of which are actually shown in the image, I just couldn’t really find anything better for the sake of the post’s cover photo haha.*)

* * * * * *

Hi Guys! ๐Ÿ™‚

For today’s post I wanted to share with you guys a list of some of my favorite healthy-ish snacks.

I thought this would be a good post because if you’re anything like me, you’re a HUGE snacker, and even though we may be trying to diet a little more and clean up our eating, old habits die hard.

And personally, for me, the hardest part of “dieting” is not being able to snack the way that I used to (obviously it’s for a greater purpose, but nonetheless, I miss it so much sometimes ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ˜ฉ)

So, that being said, I wanted to share with you guys some of my healthy-ish alternatives that have been working pretty well for me whenever I want and/or feel the urge to snack; they’re nothing crazy and also not that bad macro-wise, which make them even better.

I figure since there’s some variety to the different snacks I eat, why not break them up into categories?

The categories I chose were chocolate-related, chips (although some also include popcorn and crackers), and just “other” because there’s a few different things going on in that category.

* * * * * *

So, without further adieu, here are some of my current favorite snacks:

Chocolate

*For all of the Fiber One brand snacks, some of the main nutrition facts to look out for are shown right there on the boxes.*

The Fiber One snacks are really great because this brand alone, comes with a variety of snacks for you to choose from. A lot of them tend to be like 90 calories only which is why you’ll see that end up being advertised the most. It’s great because they’re pretty tiny for you to just grab one and go, which is usually what I end up doing everyday. I’ll pack my lunch, throw one of these in my bag for a midday snack, and I’m ready to go! ๐Ÿ™‚

The Len & Larry complete cookies are pretty good, but they’re also pretty hefty when it comes to the amount of calories that are within them (total calories for 1 serving, which is technically only half of the cookie, is 200 calories!!). A lot of people tend to say that they’re also pretty bland and dry tasting, but for a while I REALLY liked them……until they came out with the complete CRUNCHY cookie (shown on the right side)!!!

Guys, if i had to recommend either of them to you right now, I would instantly say go with the crunchy cookies, they’re SO good, and not as crazy when it comes to the calories per serving size. 1 serving size is 6 cookies and comes out to 160 calories.

Although in general, as I always say, you should try them both and come to your own conclusion(s) about them.

Chips

img_5211.jpg

In general, I LOVE to snack on Ritz crackers which is why there are 2 different “kinds” shown here. I think they’re SO good. But if I had to choose between all the different flavors, etc. I think I would say that these 2 shown are my absolute favorites.

The toasted chips have a nice somewhat subtle salty taste to them, and each serving is is 1oz which is about 8 chips, and comes out to 130 calories, whereas the Hint of Salt crackers, have VERY little salt to them at all, but still taste good to me. A serving of these is 16 grams, which is about 24 crackers and equates 80 to calories.

These are my absolute FAVORITE chips. If I go to any store now and am on the hunt for chips, I’ll most likely be finding and grabbing for these (unless it’s a cheat-day and I’m craving something else ๐Ÿ˜‚). 1 serving size of these is about 15 chips, and comes out to 160 calories.

I really don’t tend to crave popcorn like that anymore the way that I used to when I was younger, but the few times I do, I’ll opt for grabbing a bag of this. It’s gluten free, light, airy and just generally tastes really good. This is also a great snack because since it’s so light, the calories in just one bag are super low, it’s only 100 calories. That’s really not bad at all for like a midday or late night little snack.

Others

HaloTop_900

Recently whenever I really am craving some ice cream, Halo Top has been my way to go. Diego actually introduced me to this brand. The great thing about this ice cream brand is that it’s low carb, low fat, AND high protein; and depending what flavor you end up getting will depend on how many total calories are in that one pint (which is shown right on the front of it). My personal two favorite flavors are the cookies and cream (320 calories total) and chocolate chip cookie dough (360 calories total) ones (highly recommend you try those).

I used TO love fruit snacks when I was a kid, but it had gotten to a point that I ate them so much, I ended up disliking them for a LONG time. But, recently I’ve begun to really like and want them again. I like the Mixed Fruits one, but if I had to choose between the two, I would 100% go for the Berries ‘N Cherries flavored ones. This again, is not too terrible of a snack for throughout the day. One pouch goes for about 80 calories total.

chobaniflip17

I’m not usually a HUGE fan of yogurts, but nowadays if I ever actually want and/or crave one, chances are, I’m going to be going for one of these. These are great because each package comes with a little side for the yogurt, along with another side for the toppings of that specific flavor. My personal favorites include Cookies and Cream (190 calories), Almond Coco Loco (230 calories), Smores (180 calories), and Peanut Caramel Satisfaction (200 calories).

I hope you guys enjoyed this post, and that in some way, shape or form, if you’re anything like me and are in need of looking for some healthy-ish alternatives for snacking, this helped you.

When it comes to things like this, it all comes down to personal preference. You really just need to try a bunch of these things and really figure out what you like, what you don’t, what works for you and what doesn’t. What works for me, may very well not work for you, BUT you have some new possible recommendations here that you can try out and hopefully end up liking!

What are some of your guys’ favorite stuff to snack on when you’re in the mood (whether they’re full-on healthy or healthy-ish like a lot of my suggestions)?! Do we have any of the same favorites? Maybe you have some that you could recommend for ME to try! Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear from you guys โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

As always, thank you guys so much for reading, please follow, like, share and comment and I’ll see you guys in my next post! ๐Ÿ™‚

*Also, something for you guys to think about….I’ve really been wanting to do some sort of Q&A post for a while now and have already been getting a few questions from people on my social media, so if you’re interested (either in the comments below, reaching out to me directly on social media or through email), ask me some questions of things you guys would like to see me address in that post! ๐Ÿ˜€ The questions can literally be about anything; my blog, my future, relationships, family, personal stuff, etc. etc. I want to make it as fun and interesting for you guys as possible, so don’t be shy! ๐Ÿ™‚ *

The Christmas Tag: Let The Festivities Begin!

Hello and happy Sunday everyone!

Another end to another weekend…as bittersweet as it may be, I hope you guys enjoyed it and rested up for the start of the new week tomorrow!

I’m super excited because today I’m going to be officially starting my first day of Blogmas!!

I am, however, just going to be doing my own version of it, MEANING, although most bloggers and/or YouTubers tend to try and post every single day/night for the month of December, I’m going to just do it twice or three times a week. Nonetheless, I will be making sure that they’re as fun, creative and holiday-related (to some extent) as possible! ๐Ÿ™‚

So, for today’s post (and technically first day of Blogmas for me), I thought it would be fun to do none other than the Christmas tag! Mentioning a few of my personal holiday favorites along with past experiences, traditions, etc.

So, without further adieu, let’s get started!

* * * * * *

  1. What is your favorite Christmas film?

The-Santa-Clause-Movies-the-santa-clause-movies-30644643-700-318

There are SO many (which I’m going to be doing a completely separate post about later on), but if I had to choose out of them all, I would have to probably say The Santa Claus movie(s), starring Tim Allen. I literally never get tired of those movies and think they are SO cute.

2. Have you ever had a White Christmas?

None that I remember on the day of, but there’s been some a few days before and/or after.

3. Where do you usually spend your holiday?

At home with family (my parents and brother) and Diego.

4. What is your favorite Christmas song?

The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You) by Nat “King” Cole.

5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

Amongst my family, the only thing(s) we open on Christmas Eve are our stockings, but aside from that, Diego and I usually tend to exchange gifts with each other and open them that day.

6. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen…..(and Rudolph). And to be honest the only reason I really know them and can recite them so fast if you asked me in person is because of that one scene in Jingle All The Way starring Arnold Schwarzenegger (which, if you haven’t watched it before you totally should ๐Ÿ˜‚).

7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?

I guess I would have to say the Advent calendar my dad always gets my brother and I every year (no matter how old we are), watching the 25 days of Christmas on FreeForm, and also watching A Christmas Story all day on AMC ย on the actual day of Christmas with my family.

8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Fake!

9. What is your all-time favorite holiday food/sweet treat?

easy-cookies-to-make-with-kids-4

I LOVE the holiday pillsbury sugar cookies. UGHH they’re pre-baked already, but god do they never get old ๐Ÿ˜ ย (which fun fact: they have ones as E.L.F. themed now that I am SO excited to make!!!)

10. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?

Honestly, if you know me you know that I LOVE giving gifts to others, especially the people I care about most, and even if I don’t get anything back from them in return. I’m just that type of person. I go all out every year for the people I care about. I love and would much rather know that I’m making other people happy in that sense then get anything else. To me, that makes me the most happy.

11. Most memorable Holiday moment?

Last year in general, although it was really hard, was also really memorable, because it was the first Christmas in YEARS that we had spent it without our cat Spencer. And everyone in my family knew how difficult it was for me personally, so they all (in their own separate ways/gifts) got me a lot of great things to help me not only cope, but also to just remember him.

IMG_2444

Like my mom got me this picture of me and Spencer blown up and put on a canvas, which actually hangs on the wall in my room now, and Diego got me a bracelet that was engraved with “For my love, From D & S,” which was pretty special and actually made me cry (both of them).

12. When did you realize the truth about Santa?

This is terrible, but I must’ve been like 9-10 and to this day I really don’t remember what was up my ass that one Christmas morning, or who pissed me off or why it happened, but I just remember being really upset and yelling at the top of my lungs to my parents “AND THAT’S WHY SANTA ISN’T EVEN REAL!!” and so from then on, my parents stopped all of the ‘Santa is real’ charade with me and just got me gifts like a grown-up (so to speak) ๐Ÿ˜‚.

13. What makes the Holidays special for you?

Honestly, I just love the general feeling and giddiness that comes along with it all. The music, decorations, events, etc., it’s just all really fun and exciting and never gets old for me. I’m 23 years-old and to this day, I look forward to it and all of the cheesy little things that come along with it every year.

14. Have you ever made a snowman?

Not on or for Christmas, but yes my brother and I have tried (and failed) several times before.

15. How do you decorate your house for Christmas?

I/we (my family) love the holidays and always do our best to go all out. And personally, ย more so now that I’m older, working and making my own money, I tend to go all out even if it’s just for my room (which I’ll be showing you guys in a separate post soon).

16. When do you start getting excited about Christmas?

Anyone who knows me knows that November 1st is when I start getting excited, decorating and listening to Christmas music lol.

17. You have been granted one Christmas wish….what would it be?

To have one big Christmas party/event with my entire family (from both my parents’ sides), because it’s been a LONG time since we’ve all gotten together in that way sadly, and I know it would be a great and memorable time for all of us if it were to happen.

* * * * * *

I hope you guys enjoyed this Christmas Tag post. Please like, share, follow and comment, and stay tuned for my next Blogmas post in a few days! ๐Ÿ˜€

4 Podcasts to Listen to When You’re Looking For Inspiration

This post is sort of going to be piggybacking off of my last 2 posts.

If you read myย 8 Tips to Staying Motivatedย post a few days ago, you would’ve saw that one of the things I recommended and have been loving doing myself lately is listening to podcasts.

Now, I know that in the day and age that we live in everything is digital, and because of that, kids, people, etc. are more inclined to read and/or listen to something on their phone or tablets then they are to doing it the old fashion way of picking up an actual book or even listening to an actual record, which is why I think listening to podcasts is great.

If you happen to be one of these people, then keep reading…

Podcasts are really similar to eBooks, and are a great way for people to listen to speeches, motivational speakers, some of your favorite celebrities gossiping, etc. It’s pretty much like a radio on your phone haha.

In my ‘8 Tips’ post, I mentioned that recently whenever I’m heading home at night from the gym, I tend to listen to them now. I found a few that seemed really interesting to me, and from there it just kind of snowballed, so I figure I share my favorites with you guys for those of you that may be interested and looking for some extra inspiration in your life.

I found that these podcasts are SO good at giving you the little extra push you may need to push through whatever struggles you may be dealing with at the moment, or if you’re at a stand-still for one reason or another, etc. But, I find that one of the best things about them all is that it’s not pushing or motivating in an annoying, forceful way like jamming the “need” for school and work down your throats; it’s in a way that’s realistic and really makes you think and put things into perspective in your life.

That being said, I’m going to share with you guys the 4 different podcasts that I’ve been LOVING lately, and I’m sure you will too. (*Totally not planned to have 2 of them be from women and 2 from men btw lol*).

  1. Don’t Keep Your Day Job by: Cathy Heller

Don't-Keep-Your-Day-Job-Podcast-Art-2018-SEP

You guys…..to say that I’m OBSESSED with this podcast is a complete understatement. I don’t even remember how I came across it, but I’m SO glad that I did. When I first discovered Cathy’s podcast, I literally was on a binge of like a week straight listening to all her recent episodes. They were SO good and so freakin’ interesting. I can’t even tell you guys seriously how inspired I felt after listening to her, specifically, the 2 episodes that I would recommend listening to THE MOST, if any at all, are the ones she did titled “What They Don’t Teach In School, Part 1 and 2.” Those are the episodes that really got me hooked. 1000000% recommend to anyone looking for inspiration and trying to find themselves.

2. Bucci Radio by: Amanda Bucci

avatars-000300281133-99jqdy-original

This is a podcast I found because I just love Amanda Bucci in general. Amanda is a fitness and lifestyle entrepreneur. I was actually introduced to her entire platform by Diego a few years ago, when she was primarily focused on fitness and competing. Literally she was my fitness goals guys (and still is). But, what I think is AMAZING about her, is how much she’s expanded not only herself, but her brand waaaay past fitness, into something so much bigger and better now (not to say what she was doing before wasn’t great), into what she is today. AND SHE’S ONLY 24 YEARS OLD!! How crazy, but awesome at the same time. Her entire podcast is dedicated to “igniting your fire” and trying to help you figure out not only what your passionate about it, but also how to actually DO something about that passion. If you haven’t heard of and/or checked it out, I seriously recommend that you do ASAP.

**These next 2 podcasts that I’m going to mention are fairly new to me still, but I still have been really enjoying them so far and inspiring just like the first two do.**

3. This Is Your Life by: Michael Hyattย

1200x630bb

This is another great show for not only motivating, but also just trying to open your eyes and realize that everything you need for your future is ultimately right in front of you. He teaches how to not just SIMPLY live your life, how to work hard for things that make you happy and proud, how to lead by example and be a GOOD leader at that, and ultimately tips on how to start and create your own personal brand.

4.ย  And finally….The School of Greatness With Lewis Howes

1200x630bb (1)

Obviously all of the podcasts I’m recommending are intended to inspire,ย  so in that aspect, this is just like the others. However, they all do it in such similar, yet different ways. Lewis’ podcast is all about speaking on the different types of passions he has in his life, while also covering serious topics like people’s mental well-being, breaking through their fears and how to not just work hard, but work smart. He really makes you question all aspects of certain things, which I don’t know about you guys, but I love to have that happen. I love to be challenged and force myself to really think about something even if it may seem obvious. It stimulates your mind to question things about yourself and the things around you instead of just completely accepting them for what they are.ย  And because of this (among other things), I strongly recommend that you guys check him and his podcast out ASAP if you haven’t already.

* * * * * *

One of the biggest things I love about all of these podcasts is that like I said earlier, they’re not forceful and annoying motivation to the point where it’s like okay….we get it, shut up. Everything all of these people speak about in each one of their episodes is actually REALLY interesting and engaging.

Plus, although they are all AMAZING at what they do on their shows, it’s not like just them talking the entire time, all the time. They all tend to bring guests onto their show every so often to further prove the points they’re trying to make. And yes, occasionally they will be celebrities, but most times they’re not. Most times it’s real people, that have gone through real shit and have genuinely worked hard at whatever it is they love to do to get to where they are today, and that more than anything (to me) is the most inspirational part of it all.

I know that celebrities usually all have their own stories to share and they tend to go through real-life issues of their own obviously, but personally, I don’t want to hear about any of that. I want to hear about these real people that were really sick or dirt poor and how they never lost faith that things were going to get better for them, and never stopped working towards their goals until they got to where they wanted to be (which includes the hosts of these shows too obviously). And ALL of these podcasts never cease to disappoint in that aspect, which is what makes them my favorite and why I so badly wanted to share them with you guys.

* * * * * *

So there you have it. Hope you guys enjoyed this post and end up checking out some (or all) of the podcasts I recommended! Let me know in the comments or on social media which podcast ended up sparking your interest, OR if you have any of your own to recommend for me to check out. I’d love to hear from you guys about it!

See you guys in my next post!

-Xoxo, Leo Girl โค
