Making The Most Out of a Bad Situation

Hey guys, how’s everything going?

I hope that you all are doing well and staying healthy and safe in the comforts of your own homes with your families, significant others, etc.

For today’s post I wanted to talk a little bit about making the best out of a bad situation, which I think we can ALL agree that we’re kind of in right now with the whole “quarantine” stuff going on.

I did a similar post to this about 2 years ago (which I’ll leave linked here if you want to check it out), and as I just mentioned, given the circumstances of where we all are right now and what’s going on in the world, I thought it was important to re-create it to some extent.

It’s awful, it’s annoying and it REALLY sucks, but in this very moment, we unfortunately cannot do much to change the ways things are other than following what medical experts and our elected officials are telling us to do which is to STAY INSIDE. Don’t go out. Don’t come into contact with too many people at a time. And try to be as smart about all this (as far as stocking up on food and necessities) as possible.

I’m not saying it’s going to be easy because it’s definitely not, but I can only continue to hope and pray that by doing all of this and following the “rules” that these officials are giving us, that it’s going to make things better with each day that passes.

Since all of this is so out of our hands and up in the air, the only thing I think we can REALLY do at this point is try to stay as busy, productive and distracted as possible while we’re stuck at home.

I for one am definitely the type that cannot stay still. Those of you that know me and/or follow me on social media know that I am always on the go, always have something going on or that I’m working on and typically tend to go stir crazy being stuck at home for more than just a day. However, under the circumstances, I don’t exactly have a choice. I/we are going to be at home for a LONG time. That being said, I’ve put together the below list of things that I plan on doing throughout this time in quarantine (aside from working lol), that also may peak your interest while being at home moving forward.

Things to do:

  • The first thing I personally am going to do is genuinely try to enjoy these first few days I’m home and off. Let’s get it out of our system whether it’s just the first day or first three. Personally I know these days are well deserved off for me, as I’m sure it’s the same for you guys as well. I’m saying to enjoy them as best you can and do nothing right off the back because realistically, when are we ever really going to get a chance like this again? Being at home, doing relatively nothing but relaxing and (more or less) not really having a care in the world. I don’t know about you guys, but I personally don’t get too many days like that in my day-to-day routine.
  • Start a new book or book series (i.e., the Twilight series, Harry Potter series, Hunger Games, Pretty Little Liars series, etc.). Something that will take you a while to get through.
  • Find and start a new TV series (or movie collection). With all of the different streaming services in the world today, it should not be difficult to find SOMETHING to watch and get into, even if you may not have cable.
  • Get into listening to Podcasts. People suggest this a lot, and when I first heard of that I was definitely like ehh, but then I started looking into it myself and finding certain ones that really peaked my interest and I got into it more and more. I would listen to them on the train going and/or coming from work. Walking home. I even used to listen to it as I was doing cardio sometimes. There are some really great and inspirational ones with amazing vibes within them (I have an entire post dedicated to my favorite ones which I’ll leave linked here if you guys want to check it out).
  • Practice Self-Care. There is no better time then right now to be able to practice self-care whether that’s taking care of your skin more regularly, giving yourself a mani/pedi, meditating, practicing yoga, etc. Take care of yourself now more than ever.
  • Home workouts. This one is SO important (for me personally anyway). One of the biggest disappointments I’ve had thus far throughout all of this is the fact that every single gym in New York is closed right now and I have no way of being able to strength train at the moment anymore. So, because of that I need to get a little creative and start to come up with a home workout routine because who knows how long I/we are going to be stuck home, but either way, summer is approaching so I’m still trying to have that ‘summer body’ mentality in mind and stay in shape.
  • Teach yourself how to cook/bake something new (or several new things). I’m actually kind of REALLY looking forward to this because I used to be so in love with the idea of cooking and baking when I was younger, I would always find and save recipes for my mom and I to be able to try making together (which we did a few times). But, as I got older, I started being more on the go and spending less time at home, which prompted me to never have time for making stuff for myself, so since I still live at home with my parents at the moment, whenever I get home at night my mom usually is the one to cook and leave stuff for me on the side. I know how to make a few things here and there, but I’m excited to hopefully take some more time out to learn how to make more meals for myself.
  • Spring cleaning!! This one is pretty big for me too because I’ve been saying for a while now that I want and need to take the time to just stay home, go through all of my clothes and what not and get rid of anything/everything that I don’t want or use anymore. SO I will 1000000% be taking advantage of this time home and finally be siting down to do that at some point. Out with the old, in with the new!!
  • Clean up and organize the pictures/videos on your phone. Since I’ve been taking my blogging and Instagram content more seriously in recent months, I’ve been taking SO many pictures. But because I end up taking so many, after I take the one or 2 that I end up using to post, I end up leaving all of the rest just kind of sitting in my camera roll from each individual shoot so there is a LOT of build in there at the moment. It is a must that I do a bit of spring cleaning in my camera roll throughout this time as well haha.
  • For my creators out there, take this time to try and plan (and execute if possible) new content!! It can be so difficult to plan out content sometimes, especially when you throw in having a 9-5, going to the gym early in the morning or right after work, balancing a relationship, friends, a home life, etc. Now is the PERFECT time to try planning out new content (whether it’s Instagram, YouTube, blog posts, etc.) for when we finally come out of quarantine. But also, try creating new content. It can be difficult because there’s only so much you can do at home, but this is the time to really try getting creative and putting things together for your personal brand or whatever you may be working on/towards.
  • and finally, take this time to RESEARCH and EDUCATE yourselves (as I obviously will myself) on all of the serious stuff going on in the world right now. Although it’s all the media seems to be talking about at the moment, I promise you that there is SO many other things going on in the world OTHER than the virus. DON’T listen to everything that news outlets and the media has to say, do your own research and help yourself understand all of this whether it’s with the virus, the financial repercussions that may or may not come out of this or all of the employment stuff going on and that will happen after all of this is over. Yes, it can be very scary and/or nerve-wrecking to read a lot of what’s going on or going to happen, but I personally would rather educate myself and somehow be prepared for what’s to come then go in blind and not know or understand half of what’s going on.

Things are SO difficult right now, but try using this time to take a step back from all your normal responsibilities for a little bit, relax, recharge and come back better then ever. Usually the new year is a time to really “start all over” and “start fresh,” but maybe THIS is what will be our fresh start.

This is the time to take advantage of all the free time we’re going to have in the coming days/weeks and do all of those things that we typically tend to put in the back burner because we “don’t have time.” Time is all we really have right now.

Tips For Self-Care

Hey Guys,

Yesterday started out as a pretty good day; I was feeling a lot better compared to how I was the past few days (health wise), work was fairly quiet, and I had actually gotten home at a decently early hour (which if you know me and my hectic schedule, that rarely happens nowadays). After I got home, however, things went downhill quick and unfortunately, it was one of those things that REALLY just ends up ruining your entire day altogether…..

I’m not going to get into detail about it because it’s more on the personal side and something to discuss in a later post if at all, BUT because of having a shitty end to the day, I thought it was the perfect time to put out THIS post which, as you saw from the title, is:

TIPS FOR SELF-CARE! 💆🏻‍♀️🎉

Self-care is any action or activity that we do which helps us take a step back from our responsibilities for a few seconds, minutes or hours in order to care of our mental, emotional, and physical health.

It can literally be anything. Anything that helps make you feel good and rejuvenated to continue to kick-ass at work, or while doing your chores, or whatever the case is.

I thought this was the perfect time because whenever you’re in a shitty mood like I was yesterday, aside from obviously kind of wanting to just do your own thing and be left alone by everyone, don’t you to some extent end up wanting to do things that will somehow cheer you up and make you feel better? Because I know I sure do, even if it means doing them alone.

Now, everyone is obviously different and likes/prefers different things to make them happy and feel good, but I figure I can share with you guys some of the things I typically like to do when I’m down (including what I did yesterday), that usually end up bringing me out of my funk in hopes that maybe it could help you do the same now or in the future for yourself.

OR maybe you’re not in a funk at all, and maybe you just want some things to help fill up your free-time that’ll still make you happy, but also feel productive…these ‘tips’, although they’re more suggestions of things to do then actually tips, can be used for any of the above.

  1. WRITE. Usually whenever I’m in a funk or have any free-time at all is normally when I catch up on things like my blog or book. Writing soothes me SO much and usually ends up making me feel like a new person whenever I’m done. Whether it’s in my notebook, on sticky notes or written in the notes on my phone, you’ll always catch me jotting things down whenever I get a chance. It’s soothing to be able to jot down whatever it is I may be thinking about in the moment (not every single second of the day obviously, but if I feel it’s important and that I may want to go back to it later on).

2. READ. Unfortunately, I don’t always find the time to be able to do this, but when I DO…it’s the best. I completely tune everything out and just focus on the book I’m reading; the characters, the situation going on, whatever it may be at the time, to the point where I don’t even want to sleep until I finish reading whatever it is. I find that reading is a nice way to calm your mind, especially at the end of the night, if that’s the sort of thing you’re into like I am.

3. WORKING OUT. Going to the gym and working out can be so unbelievably therapeutic for a person’s mind, body and soul (believe it or not). If you’re reading this and you’re not into working out at all, I can see why you would probably roll your eyes at this one, because it’s so cliché for someone to say, but I promise it’s also 100% true (if you’re into the workout at the time anyway). It’s a great stress-reliever after a long day to just go ahead and release all of your pent up frustration, aggression, or whatever the case may be for you and just take it ALL out on the weights.

4. A SKINCARE ROUTINE. Another cliché and typical suggestion to make, because it’s something that everyone always suggests, but it really is another good one and actually the one I opted to do last night. Doing a skincare routine whether elaborate or basic is so soothing and will for sure make you feel good by the end of it (to some extent anyway). I mean, who doesn’t want smooth, clear and radiant skin right? After all, it is the first thing you see of yourself, as well as the first thing others end up seeing of you, so why not make it good?

5. And finally, GETTING A MANI/PEDI. Again, another cliché suggestion, but any sort of pampering that you do for yourself whether this, a skincare routine, a haircut, etc. is sure to make you feel rejuvenated and good about yourself in some way, shape or form. I mean who doesn’t love to feel and actually get pampered, right?!

Well that’s it guys…these are things that usually tend to make me feel happy, good about myself, and productive.

Obviously there are probably a ton more, different from this list, that you would be able to think of, but the ones that I mentioned are the ones that are generally all, if not, MOST of the things I tend to gear towards whenever I’m in a funk or just looking to do some ‘me-time’ stuff.

Self-care is a form of self-love, and if you’re anything like me and tend to be super busy and on-the-go all the time, you should try to make time for it AT LEAST once or twice a week.

It really is important and needed in order for you to reflect, release, relax and rejuvenate to carry on with the rest of your week and/or start your week even.

Sephora BeautyInsider Appreciation Event & Other Things Haul!

*Can you guys tell I’m the WORSE at titles/headings?!* 😂

If you’re a dedicated makeup lover and follower of Sephora, you know that very rarely do they do any type of sales like this. In fact, they only really do it once a year around the holidays. So when word got out that they were doing this BeautyInsider appreciation sale, you know everyone (including myself) went nuts.

I typically don’t tend to participate in these things even though I am part of the rewards program, and have been at the VIB status for a while, because I almost always forget that it’s going on, and then by the time I actually remember, the sale is over 🤦🏻‍♀️, since they usually only hold them for a short amount of time.

This year, however, I was fully aware of it and took full advantage of my 15% off everything discount (*which, fun fact, everything I ended up purchasing in the sale upgraded me to VIB Rouge status, which means that instead of having 15% off in the next event like this that happens, I’ll now have 20% off, among other cool benefits*).

With all of that being said, I thought it would be cool to share with you guys all of the products I picked up during the sale, as well as other general makeup products that I’ve bought recently outside of Sephora. I’m going to start off with the Sephora stuff, then move on to the other things.

*Note: When I started going through everything I bought, and writing this post, I didn’t realize how many ‘mini’ versions of products I got. So this is a half full-sized products, and half mini/sample size kind of post!! 😂*

In no particular order:

  1. Marc Jacobs Beauty. I got 2 different lipglosses from this brand; 1 Enamored Hydrating Lip Gloss Stick in the shade P(r)each (the top one) and 1 Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer Lipgloss in the shade 318 Pretty Thing (the bottom one).

I have heard SO many amazing things about these lipglosses from girls I know, beauty influencers, etc. so I figure it’s about time that I pick a few up to try them out myself. Both lipglosses are $28.

2. Jouer Cosmetics. I got one of their Long-Wear Lip Creme Liquid Lipsticks in the shade Dulce de Leche. I’m a huge lipstick girl (liquid and otherwise), so I obviously had to make sure I picked up a few during this sale, and I had a ton of these sitting in my cart for the longest so I figure why not? Similar to the Marc Jacobs lipglosses, I’ve heard so many good things about this brand’s lipsticks; their formula, the way they wear, etc. so I’m definitely excited to try these out finally. These liquid lipsticks retail for $18.

3. Kat Von D. I picked up a mini version of the Lock-It Setting Powder from her brand because I’ve heard so many people rave about it, but most setting powders tend to be a miss for me. So, I figure I pick-up the mini version, see how I like it and if I do I’ll just buy the full-size version. This miniature version comes with 0.19 oz of product and retails for $15 (the full-size one is $30 in case anyone was wondering).

4. Boscia. I picked up one of the Boscia Cactus Water Moisturizers. One of my absolute favorite things to check out on the Sephora website is always the Skincare section, especially the ‘just arrived’ part of it. I’m always on the hunt for new and good products that are going to help, hydrate, and brighten my sensitive skin, so when I saw this and read the amazing reviews, I knew I HAD to get it.

The majority of the recent reviews I read on this were all super positive, especially for people with dry skin (which I tend to struggle with), so I’m really excited to try this and see what it does for me! This retails for $38.

5. Anastasia Beverly Hills. Of COURSE I had to run and pick-up the Norvina palette and I think it’s pretty self-explanatory why…I mean just look at it..take a second, I’ll wait……

Done? Okay, let’s talk about it. Just LOOK at this color range and how gorgeous it is. I feel like so many beautiful soft or smokey pinky, purply looks can be done with this palette. UGH it is beautiful. I’ll be honest, I only really watched two reviews on this palette from KathleenLights and Manny MUA, but regardless, they were both good and gave me the extra push to run out and buy it. I mean c’mon especially with the sale going on, I had to. The palette retails for $42.

6. Too Faced. I picked up one of the Too Faced Born This Way concealers in the shade Light Beige. I’ve literally been obsessed with finding the perfect concealer for my crazy, puffy, dark circles lately and have heard a lot of great things about these in particular so I’ve been itching to try it. These retail for $29.

7. Hourglass. Similar to the Kat Von D one, I picked up a mini-size of the Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder. I won’t really repeat why I got the mini because it’s pretty much the same reason I got the Lock-It setting powder (see number 3 for why).

I will say though that I’ve read and seen so many great reviews about this powder all over the internet, so I’m really hoping that it’ll work the same for me that it seems to be working for everyone else. It comes with 0.07 oz of product. This miniature version retails for $18 (and the full-size goes for $46).

8. Laura Mercier. I picked up one of the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 Mini, in the shade Sand. I think the idea of being able to have a moisturizer like this and have it give people the impression that you have some type of makeup on when you really don’t, is so cool. And I’ve read that this is one of the best tinted moisturizers in Sephora, so I decided to give it a try and see how I end up feeling about it. This comes with 1 oz of product and retails for $24.

9. Tarte. I also picked up one of the Tarte Creaseless Under Eye Concealers in the shade Light Sand. Again, like the powders, I pretty much already explained my intention(s) for wanting to pick up another concealer (*see number 6*), so I won’t repeat the same thing again.

However, I will say that I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews on this, but one consistent comment and/or positive thing said about this is that it is AMAZING coverage for those with dry, dark circles, so that’s what really reeled me in and made me excited for it. So we’ll see how that goes!! This concealer retails for $26.

10. Smashbox. I picked up the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water Mini. This is something that I had in my cart and had been wanting to try for SUCH a long time, and now with this sale I was kind of just like “screw it, I’m getting it!” This comes with 1 oz of product and retails for $15.

11. Sephora Favorites. I got one of the Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Nude Lip gift sets. I always see these and think that they are so cute, especially with the products they carry. I had gotten one for my best friend last Christmas and had been wanting to try one for myself ever since, so I got this one because I LOVE my nudes…lol 😏

It comes with 3 sample sized lipsticks (a Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Color Splash Hydrating Lipstick in Beach Babe, a Make Up Forever Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick in 105, and a Buxom Lip Polish in Dolly) and 2 full-sized ones (a Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Carmello and a Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick in Trendsetter). This set retails for $28, but has a $72 value.

12. Saturday Skin. I got this Saturday Skin No Bad Days skincare set. I’ve literally never heard of this brand before, but when I was skimming through the skincare gift sets section I saw this, read the reviews (which the majority for the most part were really good), and decided to try it out.

It comes with a Rub-A-Dub Refining Peel Gel, a Daily Dew Hydrating Essence Mist, a Wide Awake Brightening Eye Cream, and a Featherweight Daily Moisturizing Cream. This retails for $39, but is of a $69 value.

13. Free Birthday Gift!! This is technically the last thing I got from Sephora, although I didn’t actually buy it, it’s free. If you’re apart of the BeautyInsider rewards program, I believe regardless of what status you’re at, every year you always get a little gift from Sephora for your birthday.

Every year they give people the option of 2 gifts to choose from and this year if I remember correctly, the options were either this Bite Beauty gift set (which has a Mini Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Chai, a Mini Matte Crème Lip Crayon in Glacé, an Agave Lip Balm, and an Agave Sugar Lip Scrub), OR a little GlamGlow duo set (which has a SuperMud Clearing Treatment & a GlowStarter Mega Illuminating Moisturizer). I figure I pick the one who’s brand I had never really tried products from before, so that’s what I did.

Well that’s all of the products that I had bought from the BeautyInsider Appreciation Event at Sephora, but I also wanted to show you guys 4 makeup products that I got from a completely new and separate makeup company recently.

The brand I’m referring to is called Beauty Bakerie. I was actually first introduced to this brand when I was watching KathleenLights YouTube video (can you tell she’s one of my fav YouTubers?) all about her testing out their products to do a full-face of makeup with them. After seeing that video, I did my own research on the brand, and honestly guys if you haven’t checked them and their story out, I HIGHLY recommend that you do. I’ll leave their site linked here so that you can check them out.

ALL of their makeup products are cruelty free and based completely off baking and everything that entails that; all of their packaging, the names of their products, etc. and it is SO FREAKIN CUTE!!

So for right now, I only got 4 of their products which was a concealer, 2 lipsticks and a setting powder. I really wanted to try one of their foundations, but there’s always next time.

How CUTE is the packaging for all of these products btw?!

  1. The first thing I got was one of their Flour Setting Powders in Translucent, which retails for $24.

2. The next thing I got was 2 of their Matte Lip Whips, one in the shade Gingersnap, and the other in the shade Syruptitious, which retail for $20 each.

3. And the last thing I got was one of their Cake Face Concealers in the shade Love You Latte, even though it looks a little dark so I MIGHT have to return it and get a lighter shade, which retails for $24.
